John Ivan Falzon - Chairman

JOHN IVAN FALZON
is the chairman of MIMCOL and MGI, responsible for a portfolio of state-owned companies. Throughout his career, he has worked a lot in the hospitality industry with major international hotel chains in Malta and in various other European companies. Ivan has occupied several senior management positions for a number of years and acts as a consultant to various firms. He was also employed with the Holiday Inn Head Office in Brussels as trainer of the Eastern European region. Ivan was a senior manager consultant with Falzon, Falzon & Co. Accountants and Auditors.

Mario Mizzi - Chief Executive Officer

MARIO MIZZI holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of MIMCOL and MGI. Mario held the position of Senior Manager responsible for Operations, with managerial responsibilities in the planning and implementation of restructuring programmes and investment / divestment decisions for companies with a Government shareholding through MGI. Prior to joining MIMCOL, Mario worked as Principal in the public sector and has also served for some time at the Malta Development Corporation. Throughout the years, Mario has held in both executive and non-executive capacity, directorships in a number of MGI companies. In his personal capacity, Mario has also provided a range of business consulting services to various private firms on the island. Mario holds a B.A.(Hons.) Degree in Accountancy and is in possession of a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Henley College (Brunel University) UK. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

John Busuttil- Senior Manager, Finance and Administration

JOHN BUSUTTIL presently holds the position of Senior Manager, Finance and Administration at both MIMCOL and MGI. He is responsible for accounting, finance and administration matters within MIMCOL and MGI. John has served as Director / Chairman on various Boards of Directors of MGI subsidiaries. He joined the Civil Service in 1975 and was attached to various Ministries including the Department of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Parastatal and People’s Investments and the MDC. Prior to joining MIMCOL, he served as Senior Principal with the Department of Industry. John graduated in Accounting at the University of Malta in 1984 and is in possession of a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College (Brunel University) UK. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Auditor and is a Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Antoinette Borg - Head, Business Advisory

ANTOINETTE BORG is a Certified Public Accountant, a graduate of the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons) degree in Accountancy, and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College (UK). She is a Fellow Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (UK), from which she received the CIMA Award for obtaining the highest worldwide mark in Business Taxation in 1999. After being engaged as Management Consulting Senior with Grant Thornton for four years, Antoinette joined MIMCOL as a Manager in 1999. Throughout her career span at MIMCOL, Antoinette has been involved in a wide spectrum of consulting assignments including privatisations of a number of strategic state-owned entities, planning and implementation of restructuring projects, strategic reviews, policy advice, due diligence assignments and business evaluations. Her key areas of specialisation are corporate finance and business management consulting. Further to a restructuring of MIMCOL’s activities in January 2009, Antoinette was promoted to assume the lead of the company’s Business Advisory Unit. In recent years Antoinette served as a non-executive director of the Board and the Chairperson of the Audit Committee of both Maltapost plc and Malta Enterprise Corporation.

Marco Vella - Head, Project Monitoring Unit

MARCO VELLA is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a practicing auditor’s certificate. He is a graduate of the University of Malta with a B.A. (Hons) degree in Accountancy, and holds a Masters Degree in Financial Services from the same university and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Henley Management College, conferred in 2007. He is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants.

Marco started his career in 1994 in the business assurance department of Coopers & Lybrand as a senior audit staff member. In 1998, he assumed the responsibilities of an audit manager with the merged firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers. While retaining his portfolio of audit clients, Marco became increasingly involved in projects undertaken by the management consultancy unit of PricewaterhouseCoopers. He joined MIMCOL’s management team in 2000, working on a number of projects, particularly relating to the privatisation of state-owned companies, initial public offerings, strategic and operational reviews, and ad hoc consultancy and investment appraisal assignments.

In January 2009, Marco was appointed as Head of the newly-formed Project Monitoring Unit within MIMCOL, entrusted with monitoring projects emanating from contracts in which Government is a contracting party, as well as facilitating the relationship between all the contracting parties. Most of these projects relate to major development contracts on the island and privatisation agreements.

Vincent Mifsud - Head, PPP Support Unit

VINCENT MIFSUD joined MIMCOL in 2001 and after spending three years working for the Malta Inforamtion Technology Agency as an internal auditor, he returned to MIMCOL in 2008. Vincent’s academic background is accountancy, audit and finance being a fellow member of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Malta Institute of Accountants. In 2003, he was conferred with a Master of Science in Finance degree by the University of Leicester.

In 2008, the Government announced its intention to encourage Public Private Partnerships where they are considered to be of mutual benefit to both sectors. A new PPP Support Unit was set up within MIMCOL and Vincent was designated as its head.

Anamaria Pantea - Manager, CIP

With a background in accounting, finance and insurance, ANAMARIA PANTEA obtained a Bachelor's Honours degree in Economics from the University of Oradea, Romania and is presently reading for a Masters degree in Business Administration with Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University, UK). Anamaria joined MIMCOL's management team in 2007, where besides involvement in various consulting assignments - particularly relating to valorization of state's assets - she is also responsible for the activities of the EU's Competitiveness and Innovation Programme National Contact Point (CIP Malta NCP) established within MIMCOL in late 2007.

Previously, Anamaria held the position of Coordinator Finance and Administration at the IMO-International Maritime Law Institute (Malta), a specialized institute of the United Nations Organization. Before moving to Malta in 2004, Anamaria's work experience had been within the financial and business development services sector. Both as a credit analyst with ROBANK Romania and as an international relations officer with a major regional Romanian Chamber of Commerce, she focused on corporate clients (with a particular emphasis on SMEs), advising on and supporting their access to financing opportunities and international markets. Anamaria was involved in various EU funded projects and undertook a traineeship in Brussels based on corporate representation and lobbying activities.

Jackie Camilleri

JACKIE CAMILLERI
is a Certified Public Accountant, a graduate of the University of Malta with a B.A (Hons) degree in Accountancy and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh Business School.

Soon after graduating in 1991, Jackie joined AX Holdings Group of Companies in the capacity of Head Office Accountant and one year later was promoted to Financial Controller of AX Construction. In 1994 with the advent of Capua Palace Hospital within AX Holdings Group, Jackie acquired the position of Finance and Administration Manager of the newly built private hospital and had various training opportunities in United Kingdom and Dublin private hospitals/clinics. During her time at Capua Palace Hospital, she was fully responsible for all the financial aspects of the hospital.

In 1998, Jackie joined the Foundation for Medical Services, which at the time was responsible for the design and built of Mater Dei Hospital Project amongst others. In her capacity as Financial Controller of the Foundation, Jackie carried out various internal feasibility reports, internal audit reviews and operational plans of the various healthcare entities falling within the Foundation’s remit.

In 1999, Jackie sought work experience in the United Kingdom where she joined the National Health Service and served as a Directorate Accountant at Stoke Mandeville Hospital UK. During her tenure, Jackie was fully responsible for all the financial and management accounting aspects, budget compilation as well as monitoring and control of the various clinical directorates.

On her return to Malta in 2002, Jackie provided financial consultancy services to the private and national health sector. In 2003, she was engaged as a Financial Consultant to the Foundation for Medical Services and carried out Mater Dei Hospital’s (MDH) Gap Analysis Report following which she represented FMS on MDH’s Negotiating Team.

In 2004 up until May 2007, Jackie served as a Financial Advisor to the Ministry of Health, Elderly and Community Care and in mid 2007 she acquired the position of Head of Financial and Monitoring and Control Unit (FMCU) within the Ministry. As Head FMCU, Jackie assimilated the responsibilities of Chief Financial Officer.

Jackie is presently a Board Member of the Foundation for Medical Services. She is also Vice Chairman, Non-Executive Director of the Board and the Chairperson of the Audit Committee of Malta International Airport. Jackie is also a lecturer at the Institute of Healthcare (IHC) University of Malta.

Philip Sammut - Manager

PHILIP SAMMUT is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a Fellow Member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (UK) and a member of the Malta Institute of Accountants. Prior to joining Mimcol management team in 2009 he held the position of a Finance and Administration Manager for a number of subsidiaries within the Farsons Group of Companies and over the last years he was involved in several projects undertaken by the Group. Previously he held a senior position in a large German owned company, responsible for the finance, administration and human resources of the organisation. Throughout his career, Philip has acquired a wide range of managerial, financial and accounting experience in different business sectors. He also holds a Diploma in Labour Studies of the University of Malta.

Michael Gonzi- Manager

MICHAEL GONZI joined MIMCOL in October 1988 and was assigned duties with the Finance Department. Since then he has held various other responsibilities within the organization. Throughout the years Michael has held in both an executive and non executive capacity directorships in a number of MIMCOL and MGI subsidiary companies. His main line of responsibility is IT and in 1995 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Malta in Computing and Business Management and in 2003 obtained his Master of Science degree in Information Technology and Management from Sheffield Hallam University. He is currently also occupying the post of a Consultant within the IGU unit at the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Information Technology on eGovernment services. He has also recently been accredited with Prince II certification.

David Muscat - Manager

DAVID MUSCAT is a holder of a Masters Degree in Business Administration (Henley Management College, UK, 2008) and a holder of an Honours Degree in Communication Studies (University of Malta, 2001). Throughout his time at University, David has also studied International Relations as a secondary area.

David’s work experience has mostly been gained in the field of business management, tourism, sales & marketing, insurance and the media. Prior to joining MIMCOL, David worked at Malta Enterprise, the agency responsible for the promotion of foreign investment and industrial development in Malta, where his main role was to assist and encourage Maltese enterprises in their endeavour to internationalise their products and services and penetrate new foreign markets. Through this role David worked proactively to put Malta on the map for ICT outsourcing, promoting the Island as the ideal nearshore outsourcing destination for ICT services and as an ICT hub ideally placed at the crossroads of Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Prior to Malta Enterprise, David was employed at IPSE, the Institute for the Promotion of Small Enterprises, where he gained considerable experience in consultancy, entrepreneurship and business planning. Further experience has also been gained through his involvement in the local media sphere, through his time freelancing life assurance packages, through his placement at a foreign wireless telecommunications start-up and through his time working for a reputable international car-hire franchise.

Charmaine Mallia Martin - Manager

CHARMAINE MALLIA MARTIN is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of ‘The Malta Institute of Accountants’. In 1996, she joined the corporate tax department of KPMG as an income tax assistant. Two years later, she commenced her studies and qualified as an accountant in 2003. In October 2001 Charmaine joined the audit division of the firm where she took up duties as an auditor in charge of various audit assignments in the hospitality industry and construction sector. To further her career Charmaine has also spent some time with KPMG-Isle of Man working as part of a team in the financial sector. During 2004 she joined Malta Enterprise as an incentive and benefits administrator where she was responsible for monitoring and administering the incentives under the Business Promotion Act and its Regulations. She then joined MIMCOL’s management Team in 2005.

Doreen Camilleri - Manager

DOREEN CAMILLERI is a Certified Public Accountant and is a member of The Malta Institute of Accountants. She obtained the B.Accty (Hons.) Degree from the University of Malta in 2002, and then joined the Auditing team of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Her work experience with PricewaterhouseCoopers included auditing a large number of clients and some assignments in internal auditing and accountancy. She also took the opportunity to work on secondments abroad with PwC Southampton and PwC Milton Keynes. In 2005 Doreen joined Enemalta Corporation as an assistant to the Chief Finance Officer, in charge of the preparation and presentation of Enemalta’s monthly management accounts and annual budgets, and various other financial assignments. In 2008, Doreen pursued and obtained the Diploma in VAT Compliance. She joined the MIMCOL team in February 2009.

Harold Walls - Manager

HAROLD WALLS is currently a member of the Collective Bargaining Unit and Chairman of the Industrial Tribunal. Harold’s key areas of expertise are Training and Development, Employee Resourcing and Employee Relations. He holds an M.Sc in Human Resources Management and the Board of Examiners awarded him with special commendation for his excellent performance in Employee Relations. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Personnel and Development (U.K). Mr. Walls previously worked as Deputy General Secretary responsible for international affairs, collective bargaining and education for one of the leading Trade Unions in Malta and also represented the Union on the Council for Economic Development.

Moira Camilleri - Personal Assistant to the CEO

MOIRA CAMILLERI joined MIMCOL in June 2006 as Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer. She was previously employed with Sea Malta Co Ltd for a period of 10 years during which she worked within various departments and Company’s subsidiaries including the Passenger Services Unit, the Corporate Services Division, EuroMalta Express Co Ltd and Flagstone Insurance Brokers Ltd. Moira is also a qualified quality lead auditor and used to carry out the Company’s internal quality audits. She was also chosen to be part of the team assisting the liquidators of Sea Malta.

Claire Lateo - Assistant Manager

CLAIRE LATEO first joined MIMCOL in 1988 and was assigned with the HR Department. Between 1995 and 2001 she joined Maltacom plc where she held various positions within the HR Department, including that of Personal Assistant to the HR and Administration Group Director. In October 2001, Claire rejoined MIMCOL’s management team and after a brief period, during which she was tasked with the subsidiary-related human resources matters, she was promoted to Assistant Manager. Claire holds a Diploma in Management Studies with the University of Malta and is currently reading for a Masters in Human Resources and Industrial Relations with Leicester University.

Pedro Fernández Álvarez - Communications Executive

PEDRO FERNÁNDEZ ÁLVAREZ holds a Diploma in Economics and Administration, with a specialization in European Studies, from the OverGelder College in Deventer (The Netherlands). He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in European Studies, specializing in Public Administration, from The Hague University for Professional Education (The Netherlands) and with a Masters Degree (with Merit) in European Law and Policy from the University of Portsmouth (UK).

Pedro has been working on EU related projects and in project management since 2002. In 2007 he took up the role of executive within the Malta Business Bureau – the joint EU affairs office of the Malta Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise, the Malta Federation of Industry and the Malta Hotels & Restaurants Association – and advised these associations, their respective members and the Maltese business community at large on all EU related matters of their particular concern. Additionally he was entrusted with the project management of a number of EU funded projects.
He joined MIMCOL as communication executive in February 2009. As part of the Competitiveness & Innovation Framework Programme (CIP) Malta National Contact Point his main tasks are to inform the Maltese community about the EU’s CIP funding programme and its various operational pillars, creating nationwide awareness of the opportunities this programme offers, as well as offer advice and provide support to potential applicants and beneficiaries.

Raymond Caruana - Works Manager

RAYMOND CARUANA joined MIMCOL in 2005 as Works Manager. He was previously employed with Kalaxlokk Co Ltd. Ray trained in land surveying and was appointed Head of Survey Section of the Company. He was involved in various projects ad worked also as Works Manager on several infrastructural works which the Company was carrying out. He was then deployed as the Senior Land and Engineering Surveyor with N.O.V.I.T.A. Construction Co Ltd wherein he worked on the Freeport Terminal Project from its inception to completion in 1998. Raymond supervised a team of technical land surveyors and provided effective leadership and administration. He was also responsible in managing the contract works of Mdina’s embellishment.
